Mayor de Magistris: Naples and San Francisco United for LGBT Rights. Video Message from Campania Pride
29/06/2013
“Naples with San Francisco for LGBT rights”: this is the motto of Campania Pride, the LGBT Pride event held in Naples on Saturday 22 June. Mayor Luigi de Magistris, City Supervisor Pina Tommasielli, and many Neapolitans appear in this video to offer these words of solidarity. The Gay Pride events of the two cities form a connection between one of Italy’s most advanced cities in terms of human rights protection and San Francisco, in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s historic decision on gay marriage. De Magistris visited San Francisco in mid-June and launched an ambitious plan of cooperation with the Californian metropolis. The objective is to “unite the two bays” (www.unitethetwobays.com). This encompasses a “Concert of the Two Bays” with both SF Opera and Naples’ San Carlo Theater to be held on October 25 at the War Memorial Theater, a program to train Neapolitan startups in the Mind-the-Bridge incubator in San Francisco, and joint activities in the realm of LGBT rights. “Naples and San Francisco are both open cities that embrace diversity. We lead in our respective nations on gay rights,” said de Magistris.
